Flying in the Wild West
A few pictures as we neared the Rocky Mountains
Far left:  The air strip at Red Lodge, Montana (pop, 2117).  This was one of our waypoints and also a possible stop, but the weather was good and we kept going.

Left:  Just south of Great Falls, Montana.

At Great Falls, Montana, we left the Missouri river and headed southeast toward Arkansas, but, because of a weather front moving in the same direction just ahead of us, we were forced to proceed slowly, landing every time we caught up with the front with its clouds and rain.

All of the pictures on this page are just south of Great Falls, northeast of Yellowstone Park, as we flew southeast toward Cody, Wyoming.

In Great Falls we spent some time with the FAA Flight Service Station staff for a weather briefing, and were assured that we would have good weather all the way to Cody, which we did.  However, the terrain was the most rugged of the trip.
