Adventures on the ground

Right:  After two nights in Glasgow, Montana, we load the plane at sunrise to begin a big day that included Great Falls, a flight over Presley's wheat harvest farm in Fort Benton, Montana,  Cody, Wyoming, Devil's Tower, and ending in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Above:  Capitol of South Dakota at Pierre.
When we stopped for lunch on the second day we did a little sightseeing using the "courtesy car" that most small airports loan to visiting pilots.

Upper right:  Unloading the rental car at 6a.m. in Yankton, SD
to prepare to leave on the second day.

Right:  Presley taxis the plane before his
flight on the last leg home after dropping Ellis off in Fayetteville.

Left:  Ellis and Presley back  in Fayetteville on the last day.

Above:   One of our goals was to check out cowboy bars.  This is "Sam's Lounge" in Glasgow, Montana (pop. 3253).

Right:  Not every small airport is the same.  When we decided to land in Minneapolis, Nebraska (pop. 2046) to avoid some weather ahead, the runway (foreground) was in bad shape and the terminal building and hangars were empty and boarded up.  There was nothing in sight except wheat fields. Fortunately, the weather passed in a few minutes and we flew 20 miles (to Clay Center, Kansas, with a larger airport) to spend the night.
