About the Punjab Senator
A fleet of nine sisterships are carrying passengers on a 84 day itinerary that  connects the U.S. West Coast at Long Beach  to Europe through calls in the Far East, and transits through the Indian Ocean, Suez Canal, and Mediterranean  Sea.

The nine sisterships: Pudong Senator, Pusan Senator, Punjab Senator,  Penang Senator, Portland Senator, Pohang Senator, Pugwash Senator, Portugal  Senator, and Peking Senator are all new, having been delivered in 1997 or 1998.

They are impressively large at 965 feet and 63,645 DWT, and are designed to cruise  at 24 knots. Four cabins can accommodate a maximum of 8 passengers. All  cabins are carpeted, air-conditioned 2-room suites that are outside-facing and have  private facilities. The large living room in each cabin has a sofa, love seat, chair, large  writing desk and chair, mini-refrigerator and bar, and electronics that include a  VCR, tape deck, radio, and CD player.  Each bedroom is also equipped with a wardrobe, small chest of drawers, and a large  wall mirror.

The dining room is shared with the officers, as is the lounge, indoor pool, sauna, and  recreation room, which is equipped with a ping pong table, stationary bicycle, and  multi-training machine. The lead officers are German with an international crew.

My most often asked question before I embarked:  "Why do you want to take ten days to cross the Pacific when a plane takes only 10 hours?"  Answer:  "Because I couldn't find a ship that would take 20 days."  It's been a long time dream, and now, after this successful trial run, I want to find a longer journey, perhaps around South America.  For questions or corrections, write me at ellis@melton.com        Ellis
