More of our favorite memories of Luang Prabang, Laos

Above Left:  In one village the locals dried seaweed (actually, from rivers) anywhere they could.

Above:  We really enjoyed riding bikes in Luang Prabang.

Left:  At the liquor village all sorts of creatures are highly prized to add zip and zest to the drinker.  No kidding.

Below:  the main drag.  Basically, the entire town focuses on about 10 blocks of one street.  Sadly, the shops cater to tourists.  There are a dozen Internet shops, lots of travel agencies, sidewalk restaurants galore, and plenty of chances for massage.  However, just off the main street things are pretty local and authentic, with streets like the one above.

We have dozens of pictures from our trip on the Mekong.  Here is just one, a picture of folks with luggage waiting for a boat.  Some appear to be local folks and others are tourist backpackers.

Ellis especially enjoyed the boat ride.   Arranging it was simple.  We just walked up to a young man at the dock and asked for a two hour ride, and negotiated a price of about ten dollars.  Because the boat was large, we don't see how that money paid for the fuel, but he seemed thrilled with the business.  His young wife and four year old son were along, as they live on the boat.
