Thailand:

Bangkok and Ko Samui

Above Left:  Kay catches up on reading for her Fayetteville book club while a typhoon keeps everyone out of the water on our first day on Koh Samui.

Above Right:  The Bangkok skyline from our room on the 23rd floor of the Ambassador Hotel, a place we have stayed half a dozen times.

Left:  On the porch of our bungalow on the beach in Koh Samui, an island in the Gulf of Thailand.

Below Left: As the typhoon blew out we finally got in the water.

Below:  Bangkok scene.  No wonder laundry is as cheap as everything else.  No dryer expense.

Above Left:  folks exercise every morning in Lumpini Park in the center of Bangkok.  Most Thai citizens wear yellow shirts on Monday to honor the King.   It's confusing to see 300 people walking on a sidewalk, all looking like members of a soccer team.

Above Right: One of our favorite spots in Bangkok is riverside at the  Shangri-La Hotel, a hotel that's too pricey for us retired people, but we did manage to stay there while attending conferences throughout the nineties.

Right:  Andrew introduced us to the jazz pianist at the Sheraton whom he had met on previous trips.  We talked our way into the gala Christmas eve show which featured three different jazz groups.  We returned other nights, as it was only a block from our hotel on Sukumvit.
